Alain was born in Reunion Island in 1983 and started surfing at the age of 10. However, he was not able to surf as much as he wanted (as he had to do well in school if he wanted to surf on week-ends...). This was about to change when he turned 14 and moved with his family to Tahiti. There he was able to surf every day after school and truly improved his skills.

After getting his high school degree, Alain decided to give his surfing career a chance, and has been doing well ever since: European Junior Champion in 2002 and 2003, a 89th place in the WQS rankings in 2004 and a brilliant win at the Teahupoo WCT trials in 2003.

As is required by his job, Alain covers a lot of ground during the year not only to compete but also to spend time fine tuning his equipment in between contests.  One of his longest stops is Australia for approximately 3 months at the beginning of each year, where he loves to hang out with his mates and surfing the beautiful spots of northern NSW.  Alain also spends a bit of time on the Gold Coast working on new boards with his shaper Darren Handley but tries to avoid the crowds whenever possible.   Another essential stop is of course Hawaii where Alain regularly spends a month and a half when it's at it's best.  This is usually followed by a three month European leg, where this talented young Tahitian can often be spotted at his favourite breaks in the south of the Landes as well as squeezing in the odd trip to Mundaka when it's on.

Apart from surfing, Alain enjoys sports in general, plays a bit of tennis, swims, runs, watches footy on TV, tries to play golf, he loves his grandma, mum's good food, perfect waves and pleasing his girl.  His favourite spot is of course home in Tahiti, where he catches up with family and school friends as often as possible.  He hates getting beaten (recently it's been happening too much for his liking!!), pollution, getting betrayed by friends, missing planes and pricks. He feels very fortunate to have such a life style. Although he is becoming ever more popular, he has remained a natural and easy going character.

His objectives for the coming seasons is to finish and remain in the top 50 of the WQS, which is totally within his reach, and qualify for the WCT.
